Cable rules Golden Globe mini-series nods

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Cable powerhouses HBO and Showtime reigned when the Golden Globe mini-series/made-for-TV film nominations were announced Thursday.

HBO's "Angels In America," "My House In Umbria" and "Normal" were among the nominees in the top category, along with Showtime's "Solider's Girl" and "Tennessee Williams' The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone."

Best actress in the mini-series/made-for-TV films nominations went to Judy Davis for "The Reagans," Jessica Lange for "Normal," Helen Mirren for Showtime's Tennessee Williams' adaptation, Maggie Smith for "My House in Umbria" and Meryl Streep for "Angels In America."

Best actor in a mini-series/made-for-TV movie nominations included Antonio Banderas in "And Starring Pancho Villa As Himself," James Brolin in "The Reagans," Troy Garity in "Soldier's Girl," Al Pacino in "Angels In America" and Tom Wilkinson in "Normal."

"Sex And The City" ruled the supporting actress nominations for series, mini-series or made-for-TV film with Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon receiving nods. Megan Mullally from "Will & Grace" and Mary Louise Parker from "Angels In America" rounded out the category.

Three actors from "Angels In America" were nominated for their supporting roles in the extended category: Ben Shenkman, Patrick Wilson and Jeffrey Wright. Sean Hayes from "Will & Grace" and Lee Pace from "Soldier's Girl" were also nominated.

The Golden Globe trophies will be awarded Jan. 25.
