Clark assails Bush envoy choice

WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The White House decision to name James Baker as Middle East envoy drew sharp criticism from the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark.

Baker will undoubtedly be bringing his special Florida "recount-style democracy" to the Middle East, said Clark spokesman Matt Bennett.

Early on Friday President George W. Bush named former Treasury Secretary and diplomatic adviser James A. Baker as his personal envoy on the issue of Iraqi debt.

Baker, who also served Bush's father as secretary of state, was Bush's lead attorney during the 2000 presidential election contest in Florida.
