'The Rundown' tops U.S. box office

HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- In it premiere week, Universal's "The Rundown" grossing $18.5 million and topped the estimated weekend box office, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Also in its debut week, "Under the Tuscan Sun," released by Disney, ranked second after grossing $9.4 million.

"Underworld" by Screen Gems, ranked third after making $9 million.

"Secondhand Lions" made $8 million adding to its $23 box office. "The Fighting Temptations" made $6 million adding it its $20 million box office.

"Once Upon a Time in Mexico" added $5.4 million to its $49 million box office.

In its premiere week, "Duplex," by Miramax grossed $4.4 million and ranked sixth in the U.S. box office.

"Cold Creek Manor" made $4.3 this week adding to its $14.5 million to its box office.

"Matchstick Men" made $4.2 adding to its $30 million box office, while "Lost in Translation" made $3.5 million adding it its $8.5 million box office.

The '80s are back on TV and movies

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Ronald Reagan will be portrayed in a miniseries on TV, there will be sequels to "Rocky" and "Die Hard" as the 1980s return in the United States.

A remake of the "The Dukes of Hazzard" starring Ashton Kutcher is also in the works. Jennifer Lopez redid the music and look -- down to the torn sweatshirt -- of the movie "Flashdance" for a 3-minute music video.

New television serials "The O.C." and "Skin" pick up where "Dallas" and "Dynasty" left off and "Scarface" will reappear in movie theaters with an alternate score by hip-hopper RZA.

VH-1 has two programs devoted to the decade: "I Love the '80s," and "I Love the '80s Strikes Back!"

Even Robin Leach is back with "Life of Luxury," on ABC that chronicles the life styles of people like Russell Simmons, Hugh Hefner and Donald Trump, The New York Post reports.

"We live in a desperate, scary time, politically and economically; no one wants to be seen struggling," syndicated "Entertainment Tonight" correspondent Mary Alice Stephenson told the Post.


Hollywood Walk of Fame adds Kevin Bacon

HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Actor, singer Kevin Bacon will be honored Sept. 30 with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame between those of June Lockhart and Mala Powers.

His starring roles coupled with powerful supporting characters has allowed Bacon to build a varied and critically acclaimed body of work, according to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Committee.

He stars with with Meg Ryan and Mark Ruffalo in "In the Cut," which will be released in September.

Bacon also stars with Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Laura Linney, in "Mystic River," which Warner Bros. will release nationwide on Oct. 15.

Bacon's film credits include: "Diner," "Footloose," "She's Having a Baby," "Criminal Law," "The Big Picture," "Wild Things," "Digging in China," "Telling Lies in America," "Picture Perfect," "JFK," "A Few Good Men," "Sleepers," "Apollo 13" and "Murder in the First."

In 1996, he directed his first film, "Losing Chase," featuring his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick, Beau Bridges, and Helen Mirren.

With his older, musician brother Michael, Bacon is the other half of "The Bacon Brothers," a successful band.


Mike Tyson house sold to rapper 50 Cent

FARMINGTON, Conn., Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Hip Hopper 50 Cent, Curtis Jackson, has bought Mike Tyson's 61-room Farmington, Conn., mansion for $4.1 million, the New York Daily News reported.

Real estate records indicate that Tyson's initial asking price for the 17-acre property was $25 million. It has 18 bedrooms, 38 bathrooms, four whirlpools, seven kitchens, a waterfall, a boathouse and a 3,500-square-foot disco.

The ex-heavyweight champion bought the house, billed as the largest in Connecticut, in 1996 for $2.7 million but he made improvements, including the installation of a large theater and 1,500-square-foot gym, the News said.

The boxer and his wife, Monica Turner, had tried to sell the house for years, but the former boxer lost the property to Turner in their divorce in January.
