'Friends' co-star gets own show

LOS ANGELES, July 25 (UPI) -- With the breakup of NBC's "Friends" after 10 seasons, at least one "friend" will still be around.

Co-star Matt LeBlanc has been signed for his own sitcom based on well-meaning but dimwitted Joey Tribbiani, the character he plays on the top-rated show. The new series, "Joey," will join NBC's Thursday lineup in the fall of 2004 -- when the network loses its "Friends" after a decade.

"Over the evolution of 'Friends,' Joey has emerged as the character that America roots for and loves," NBC Entertainment President Jeff Zucker said. "And I think people will clearly want to see what happens to him as his life moves on."
