Woody Allen's film to open Venice fest

ROME, July 19 (UPI) -- Woody Allen's film "Anything Else," starring Allen, Christina Ricci and Danny de Vito, will kick off the 60th Venice International Film Festival.

Details of the new Allen movie have been kept under wraps, but it is believed to be the story of a struggling New York artist who gets entangled with a younger woman, the Hollywood Reporter said.

DreamWorks will release "Anything Else" in the United States on Sept. 19, 12 days after the end of the Venice festival which begins on Aug. 27. It will be released in Italy in October via distributor Medusa.

The opening marks Allen's return to Venice after a deviation last year when his "Hollywood Ending" premiered at the Cannes film festival. Allen's eight titles previous to "Hollywood Ending" all opened at Venice.

This year, Allen will be in attendance for the first time.
