Aretha Franklin's son linked to fire

DETROIT, July 11 (UPI) -- Michigan investigators say they found traces of accelerant on the clothing of Aretha Franklin's son after her mansion burned down.

Flames consumed Franklin's unoccupied $1.6 million house on Scenic Court the morning of Oct. 25. The house, which was used for storage, was one of several owned by the Queen of Soul.

Investigators said the fast-moving fire, which left the house a charred shell with the two upper floors collapsed into the basement, was arson.

Edward Franklin, 45, was picked up in the area that morning for questioning, the Detroit Free Press said.

A state fire investigator's dog sniffed accelerants on Edward Franklin's shoes and jacket, and state crime laboratory tests later also found traces of flammable substances on the items, according to the reports.

His lawyer says his client hasn't been charged as he had no motive and nothing to gain by the fire.
