Eni posts natural gas find in Pakistan

MILAN, Italy, May 7 (UPI) -- The testing of a well near Sindh province in southeast Pakistan yielded more than 30 million cubic feet of natural gas, Italian energy company Eni said.

Eni announced 33 million cubic feet of gas per day was measured during production testing at the Lundali-1 NFW exploratory well. The well is about 160 miles north of Karachi, near an existing gas process facility.

Eni in September said it made a "significant" gas discovery about 200 miles north of Karachi in the Badhra exploration concession. In December, it signed a deal with state oil and gas company OGDCL to take on 25 percent stake in Offshore Indus Block G, situated in the Indus Basin. Eni will serve as the operator in that block in a frontier area in ultra deep waters.

Eni said it averages about 57,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in net production from Pakistan.

Pakistan is struggling with an energy shortage, turning to its Iranian neighbors and nearby Turkmenistan for natural gas support.

First gas from the Lundali discovery should get to market in about three years, it said.
