TNK-BP wants in on BP-Rosneft deal?

MOSCOW, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Anglo-Russian venture TNK-BP might be interested in teaming up for projects eyed by a joint effort between BP and Rosneft, the company said.

The British energy company in January agreed to an asset swap and exploration deal for the northern continental shelf in Russia with Rosneft. The deal is held up in a London court, however, because of a lawsuit filed by Alfa Access-Renova, a consortium representing the owners of the Russian half of TNK-BP.

But TNK-BP in a statement said it was considering working together with its British and Russian counterparts.

"Documents on the strategic alliance between BP and Rosneft, which BP has provided to Rosneft, have led the company's management to inform the board of directors about a potential interest of TNK-BP in the alliance," the company was quoted by Russia's state-run news agency RIA Novosti as saying.

Ties between TNK-BP and BP are sketchy, however. Bob Dudley, now chief executive office at BP, was run out of his Moscow offices in 2008 after serving as the head of TNK-BP, claiming he was harassed.

TNK-BP said Dudley was operating the company with BP's interests in mind.
