The European Union has similar targets for 2020, including sweeping reductions in greenhouse gases emissions.

The Bulgarian government said its proposal was in line with European laws in an effort to attract foreign investments, the news agency adds.

Bulgarian Energy Minister Traicho Traikov said in the wake of the announcement that construction started on a 45-megawatt solar farm in central Bulgaria.

SND Co., a South Korean solar company, is building the solar farm, which Traikov said would be the largest in the country.
