Advocates said PG&E was cleared in 2007 to spend $5 million to upgrade the pipeline, though the company said it was given permission to delay the work.

PG&E announced its decision to release documents that highlight a list of 100 pipeline segments in northern and central California that require attention. The company initially held back on releasing the list but gave in after state regulators ordered their publication, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The list isn't meant as an indication of risk, however. PG&E said some pipeline segments require maintenance, while others on the list are simply being monitored.

The segment that burst in San Bruno wasn't on the list, which was compiled in early 2010, the Chronicle adds.

Officials say they believe internal pipeline corrosion was a potential cause for the Sept. 9 blast. At least four people died and 58 homes were damaged when the pipeline exploded.
