Operations at Iran's Kish field imminent

TEHRAN, May 12 (UPI) -- The Iranian offshore Kish gas field is expected to go into production within the next two years to supply markets in Oman through a submarine pipeline.

Naji Sadouni, managing director of Oil Development and Engineering Co., told Iran's Petroenergy Information Network that nearly half of the contracts for the project were completed.

"Some 28 development plans of Kish gas field has been put out for tenders, and contracts of 13 have been signed," he said.

If foreign developers were apprehensive about dealing with Iran, he said, domestic contracts would assume responsibility over development plans.

Initial gas production from the Kish gas field is estimated at 1 billion cubic feet per day, with final targets approaching 3 billion cubic feet per day.

Natural gas from the Kish field is slated for markets in Oman through a 124.3-mile pipeline along the floor of the Persian Gulf.
