ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Iranian and Pakistani officials are meeting in Islamabad to discuss cooperation on energy.

Iranian Minister of Energy Parviz Fattah is meeting with Pakistani Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf about bilateral cooperation in the power sector, officials said.

Fattah is leading a high-level delegation of Iranian investors and heads of major power sector manufacturing companies and was received by Pervaiz Ashraf, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

The two groups will discuss ways to promote investment in power projects and the possibility of Pakistan importing 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Iran.

Iranian companies reportedly are interested in upgrading transmission lines, investments in thermal and alternative energy projects and manufacturing of power transformers.
