Iran pursuing gas deal with Oman

TEHRAN, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Iran is expected to send a delegation to Oman next week to take part in negotiations on development of oil and gas deals and exports, officials said.

Iranian Oil Minister Gholamhossein Nozari will lead a delegation of top energy officials to pursue bilateral energy ties with Oman, the Iranian Fars news agency said.

Nozari will pursue earlier agreements established in Tehran to set up a technical committee to look into the development of oil and gas fields in Oman.

Mahmoud Zirakchian-Zadeh, director of offshore interests in the Iranian state-run oil industry, said an agreement to be finalized in March includes arrangements for exports of around 35 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to Oman.

Both sides will hold talks on joint investments in the Iranian Kish gas field and Oman's natural gas industry.

The 2005 figures for Oman's proven natural gas reserves top 2.9 trillion cubic feet.
