TOKYO, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Japan's Mitsubishi Electric Corp. announced it will build a new solar production plant.

Shimomura said the company's decision was made because of a significant increase in demand recently for solar panels and other solar parts.

Mitsubishi Electric also said in the statement that it will speed up its capital investment plan and invest the $450 million it had planned to invest last year. The money will be used to quadruple its annual solar cell production capacity from 150 megawatts to 600 megawatts by 2012.
