AWEA leads tax credit campaign

DENVER, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The American Wind Energy Association is calling on Congress to extend wind tax credits.

Along with more than 175 companies and organizations, AWEA is leading a campaign for congressional action to extend the renewable energy and energy efficiency tax credits. Congress returns to Washington at the beginning of September, and the credits are set to expire at the end of the year.

The AWEA claims that the U.S. wind industry provides more than 100,000 jobs and $19 billion in investments.

The group of tax credit supporters is targeting the Democratic and Republican conventions in Denver and Minneapolis.

The Clean Energy NOW campaign includes a letter sent to the leadership of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, a high-profile presence at the Democratic and Republican national conventions, a 130-foot wind turbine blade on display in Denver and Minneapolis during the conventions, advertisements and lobbying in Washington in September.
