Vestas announces two new orders

RANDERS, Denmark, May 29 (UPI) -- Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems announced a new order.

The Randers-based firm will provide turbines for projects in Canada and Italy.

In Canada, TransAlta secured an order for the supply and commissioning of 22 wind turbines for the expansion of its Summerview wind farm near Pincher Creek in southern Alberta.

The order is for V90-3-megawatt wind turbines, as well as a five-year service and maintenance agreement, Nordic Business Report said.

In Italy, Vestas Wind Systems' local subsidiary Vestas Italy received a contract for enough turbines to generate 46 megawatts for the Giarratana project in Sicily.

The order was placed by Italy's largest wind energy operator, IVPC, through its project company Trinacria Eolica Srl. It was for the supply and installation of seven units of the V90-1.8-megawatt turbines and 11 units of the V90-3-megawatt turbines, as well as a VestasOnline Business SCADA solution. IVPC's order also includes a two-year service agreement.

The financial details of the new orders were not announced.
