Acciona is constructing a 50 megawatt solar thermal plant at Alvarado and a 6.28 megawatt photovoltaic solar garden at Aldea del Conde. By 2010, Acciona plans to build another solar thermal plant at Majadas de Tietar, a biomass plant at Miajadas and a photovoltaic solar garden at Castuera.

The major energy firm has also submitted proposals for seven wind parks through its subsidiary company Parques Eolicos de Extremadura.

The thermal solar plant at Alvarado is the first of its kind developed by the company in Spain and represents an investment of $460 million. It's expected to be connected to the electric grid during the second half of 2009 and is estimated to be able to produce about 102 million kilowatt hours a year.
