India to make ethanol blending mandatory

NEW DELHI, March 5 (UPI) -- India says it will make 10 percent ethanol-blended gasoline mandatory from October.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which made 10 percent blending optional last year, said it will be made mandatory from October 2008. Junior Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dinsha Patel said since the issue of modification of engines is involved, Indian Oil Corp., Bureau of Indian Standards and Society for Indian Automobiles Manufacturers have been requested to study the issue.
