Syria, Iran eye MoU on Iran gas exports

TEHRAN, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Syria and Iran agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on the import of Iranian natural gas through Turkey to Syria.

Iran’s acting oil minister, Gholam Hoseyn Nowzari, met with his Syrian counterpart, Sufyan al-Allaw, Tuesday in Tehran and said the export of Iranian gas to Syria would begin in 2009, the official Syrian Arab News Agency reported.

The MoU is expected to be signed Thursday.

SANA reported that the two sides also discussed the progress of the Syrian-Iranian-Venezuelan refinery and said they would hold a meeting involving officials from the three countries in late October to sign an agreement on the project.
