Ukraine pays off Turkmen gas debt

KIEV, Russia, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Ukraine's state-run Naftohaz Ukrayiny has paid off a debt for Turkmen gas supplied before 2006.

"Naftohaz Ukrayiny has resolved the issue of the Turkmen gas debt. Naftohaz has no debt to Turkmenistan," Naftohaz's spokesman Kostyantyn Borodin said Thursday.

His comments were reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

On Aug. 28, the debt had amounted to $10.5 million.

On Aug. 18, Naftogaz paid off $49.6 million owed to RosUkrEnergo, the intermediary gas-supply company.
