Japan helps Filipino oil spill cleanup

TOKYO, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Japan dispatched a team of disaster relief experts Tuesday to help the Philippines deal with its oil spill off Guimaras Island.

The sinking of an oil tanker last week has led to about 200,000 liters of industrial oil spill, which is damaging the shores of the island, covering the beach and mangrove swamps with black sludge, the Japanese government said in a statement.
