Turkmen, Russia sign Caspian gas deal

ASGABAT, Turkmenistan, June 20 (UPI) -- Turkmen President Saparmiyrat Niyazov met with chairman of Russian Gazprom to discuss further development of Turkmen-Russia energy cooperation.

The two sides reached an agreement on Gazprom's participation in projects on developing oil and gas resources of the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, Turkmen State News Service reported.

During negotiations, both sides discussed issues related to purchasing Turkmen natural gas, including its price and volume for the second half of 2006 and over the next three years.

But no agreement was reached on price and volume during talks this week. Negotiations were postponed for further consultations with Russian authorities. The next round of talks will be resumed after consultations are completed.
