Ramsey case: Shoe clue?

DENVER, Dec. 9 -- Boulder police investigating the JonBenet Ramsey slaying reportedly are asking friends of the Ramseys whether they have specific types of shoes, suggesting investigators have footprint evidence. Boulder costume designer Pam Griffin, who made some of JonBenet's beauty pageant outfits, says in today's Rocky Mountain News that police asked her last month whether she ever owned shoes called 'SAS or Hi- Tec.'

Griffin says, 'That indicates to me there's a print.' Former FBI agent Gregg McCrary, who specializes in criminal profiling, says a shoe impression in JonBenet's room, the basement or another critical area must figure in the investigation. Griffin says police asked her and her daughter Christine about the shoes, which one detective told them have distinctive sole patterns. She told the paper she had a pair of SAS shoes but gave them away about a year ago and her daughter never owned a pair. The News says other Ramsey friends have been asked about Hi-Tec shoes in the past six months. Boulder police spokeswoman Leslie Aaholm and Ramsey attorneys declined comment. SAS makes medium-priced comfort shoes and Hi-Tec produces low-to- moderately priced hiking boots. It has been widely reported that no footprints were found in the thin layer of snow around the Ramsey's upscale home when JonBenet was found strangled in a small basement room. ---
