Day is a programmer at IBM Corp, who has five children, age 14 to 22, from a previous marriage.

Daniel weighs 4 pounds, Jonathan 3 pounds 7 ounces, and Rebecca 3 pounds 5 ounces. The babies were seven weeks premature.

They were the first triplets born at the hospital as a result of test-tube insemination.

Dr. Ronald Ariajno, profesor of pediatricts, said the births 'went fantastically.' He said three teams of obstetricians, nurses and attendants were on hand at the births and that Mr. Day videotaped the action.

Mrs. Day has three children from a previous marriage, but had been sterilized in 1976 and, although the procedure was reversed, she was unable to become pregnant.

Following the use of fertility drugs, the test-tube fertilization was performed and the eggs implanted in Mrs. Day's womb.
