Rochelle "Shelley" Berkley (born Rochelle Levine January 20, 1951) is the U.S. Representative for Nevada's 1st congressional district, serving since 1999, and a candidate for U.S. Senate. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
The district includes most of the city of Las Vegas as well as the Las Vegas Strip. She is the second woman elected to Congress from Nevada, and the first elected as a Democrat.
Berkley moved with her family to Nevada when she was a junior high school student. Her mother is of Greek Jewish descent. She attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and earned a degree in political science and served as the UNLV Student Body President. She was also a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She then entered the University of San Diego School of Law, graduating with a degree in Law.
