Matthew David Peterson (born February 11, 1982 in Alexandria, Louisiana) is a right-handed relief pitcher currently in the Florida Marlins organization. He has played in the minor leagues for eight years.

Peterson attended Rapides High School. He played both basketball and baseball his junior and senior years with the Mustangs. His baseball team won the District Championship during his junior season.

Peterson was selected by New York Mets in the 2nd round (65th overall) of the 2000 Major League Baseball Draft. He was rated by Baseball America as the Mets' fourth-best prospect entering the 2004 season
