Derrick C. Brown, a poet/performer and former paratrooper, travels the world performing his written work. He has gained a something of a cult following for his performances, which incorporate spoken word, music and even magic. To date, Brown has performed at over 1100 venues and universities, including La Sorbonne in Paris and The Nuyorican Poets Café in New York City.
He won the California Independent Book Critics' Award in 2004 for his written work, and his performance poetry has won six first-place slam finishes. He was placed second in the National Poetry Slam individual championship in 1998.
In 2004, Brown started Write Bloody Publishing, an independent press based in Murfreesboro, TN.
