'The Normal Heart' teaser trailer debuts online

The Ryan Murphy-directed film will premiere on HBO on Sunday, May 25 at 9 p.m.

LOS ANGELES, March 10 (UPI) -- HBO's released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming TV film The Normal Heart Sunday.

The Ryan Murphy-directed flick tells the story of several gay activists trying to raise HIV awareness during the 1980s. The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Jonthan Groff, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts.

The Normal Heart is based on a 1985 autobiographical play by Larry Kramer. When the show returned to Broadway in 2011 it won three Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Play.

The Normal Heart will premiere on HBO on Sunday, May 25 at 9 p.m. ET
