HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Entertainment Weekly reports that singer Ellie Goulding (Lights, Halcyon), has written a brand-new song specifically for the upcoming film Divergent.

The soundtrack will feature several songs from Goulding, who provided the "musical voice" for the film's protagonist Tris Prior, portrayed by Shailene Woodley. Director Neil Burger told EW that the "intimate quality" of Goulding's music was a perfect way to express Tris's inner feelings and a way into "the heart...soul...and mind" of the character. He praised Goulding's original song "Beating Heart" for the film, saying, "It's a fantastic song" that he knew would be "perfect for the end of the movie."

Divergent tells the story of Tris, a young woman who does not fit into the clearly defined structure of her futuristic dystopian society. The film is based on the first book of Veronica Roth's popular young adult series, and will feature Kate Winslet as the movie's antagonist.

Goulding stated that she "really enjoyed" contributing to the film, which is set to premiere on March 21.
