LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Ahead of the brand new Star Wars film due out next December, Disney is rolling out a brand new animated series this fall.
Freddie Prinze Jr. will star in the new Star Wars Rebels as Kanan, a gunslinging Jedi on the run.
Rebels takes place 14 years after the conclusion of Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith, with Jedi in hiding from the evil Emperor's "Order 66" to wipe them all out.
"For people who are around our age and a bit older, Star Wars is in our DNA," said Prinze, thrilled to join the franchise. "I've heard 'May the Force be with you' about as many times as 'Hey, how you doing?'"
"He's been forced to shove a massive part of his life under the bed, so to speak," Prinze said of Kanan. "Is he living a lie? At a certain point, the lie kind of becomes the reality. And to suddenly be forced back into your Jedi ways, it'd be a bit of a challenge for him. And pretty awesome, too, when you can see what a Jedi can actually do."
Rebels will kick off with a one-hour special on the Disney Channel and then move to half-hour episodes on Disney XD.
