OMAHA, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- A police officer in was inundated with dozens of Valentine's Day cards after admitting to a fellow officer he never received any as a child.
Omaha Police Captain Shayna Ray was wondering how to find cards for her 5th grader to give out in class when Sgt. Brian Smith admitted he had never received a Valentine's Day card in school. Ray posted this conversation on the department's Facebook page.
"Sgt. Smith has been on the police force for over 20 years and he works hard to make our community safe." said the Ray in the post, "If you feel so inclined we are asking for people to send Sgt. Smith a much belated Valentine’s Day. The address to send the card is Omaha Police Northwest Precinct 10245 Wiesman Drive Omaha, NE 68134. We are hoping to surprise him with a box full of valentine cards!"
Within a week Smith received stacks of Valentine's Day cards, chocolates, and candies from school children, Girl Scouts, and community members. The department took photos of Smith opening his cards and posted it on their Facebook with a "thank you" for finally letting Smith open a Valentine's Day card.
