LONDON, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Twilight actor Taylor Lautner has signed on to star in the BBC's Bafta-nominated series Cuckoo.

The show stars Greg Davies and Helen Baxendale as a couple whose young daughter returns from her gap year with an American husband played by Andy Samburg. Since the SNL alum will not return for the series second season, Lautner will replace him as the new male lead.

The series will pick up two years after Samburg's character disappeared in the Himalayas, and find Rachel with a new love interest, "a nice-but-dull lawyer." Lautner will play a mysterious stranger who comes into the family's life to turn it around once more.

The role marks Lautner's TV debut since rising to fame for playing werewolf Jacob Black in the Twilight saga films.

The series premiere date has yet to be revealed.
