Indiana hands out 'Courtside Seating Guidelines' in wake of Marcus Smart incident

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- After last week’s incident when Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart shoved Texas Tech fan Jeff Orr after he made an offensive comment, the Indiana Hoosiers decided to be proactive about reminding their fans how to behave and handed out “Courtside Seating Guidelines" prior to a home game against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Wednesday night.

Smart, an All-American guard projected to be an NBA draft pick, was given a three-game suspension following the incident. Orr voluntarily offered not to attend any more Red Raider games this season.

The card reads:

Indiana University is proud to be one of only a handful of Big Ten schools to offer court-level seating in close proximity to the team and to the action on the floor. The Athletics Department is pleased to have you courtside to represent Indiana University. Please familiarize yourself and your guests with the following guidelines for courtside seating:

- Sit only in your ticket seat(s) and display your tickets when requested - Remain seated while the game is in progress. Should you need to leave your seat during the game, please exit only during a timeout. - Refrain from taking any flash photography - Refrain from interfering with the progress of the game or exhibiting any disruptive behavior. - Refrain from entering the court or throwing objects onto the court or anywhere in the arena. - Demonstrate respect for the game officials, players, coaches, staff members, and fellow fans. The use of improper language or gestures may be grounds for removal. - Refrain from displaying signs or wearing clothing with obscene or indecent messages.

Fans who do not follow these guidelines may be relocated from court level seating, escorted from Assembly Hall, and/or have their season tickets and future ticket privileges revoked.

Penn State narrowly defeated Indiana 66-65 on Wednesday night.
