LOS ANGELES, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Greta Gerwig has signed on to play the lead role in the CBS spinoff for How I Met Your Mother, How I Met Your Dad.
The 30-year-old actress is set to star in the pilot of the series created by Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and EP Emily Spivey. Should the pilot turn into a series, Gerwig will be credited as a producer and is expected to write as well.
Much like its predecessor, How I Met Your Dad tells the story from a female perspective and stars a completely different cast.
Gerwig is set to play Sally, "a female Peter Pan who never has grown up and has no idea where she's going in life," according to the Hollywood Reporter. In the pilot, Sally realizes that she want's out of her 1-year-marriage and finds solace in a solid circle of friends and family that quickly gives her advice that can backfire on her.
Spivey, Bays and Thomas will pen the script and executive produce alongside regular How I Met Your Mother director Pam Fryman.
CBS's HIMYM is slated to end on March 31, 2014, after airing for nine seasons.
