HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- On Monday, actress Gabrielle Union told Arsenio Hall that she demanded that her fiancé, NBA basketball player Dwyane Wade, sign a prenuptial agreement.
"For this marriage, the biggest difference between this and the last marriage will be a prenup, at my insistence," the 41-year-old star told Arsenio. "When you have your own stuff, you don't need to worry about anybody else's stuff… The reality is, I've never seen Dwyane balance a check book, so I got to protect my stuff."
"It’s the wave of the future. Protecting your stuff."
Union’s “insistence” about a prenup is interesting considering that Wade is slated to make more than $40 million over the next two seasons and has the opportunity to make even more if he chooses to opt out of his contract.

Wade, 32, hasn’t said whether he plans to stick with his current deal or try to get Miami to sign him to a four-year deal that could be worth as much as $100 million.
“When I get into that position, it’s something I’ll think about,” Wade told ESPN. “You have to sit down at the time and see what is best for you and for your team.”
In order to team up with LeBron James and Chris Bosh in Miami in 2010, Wade willingly accepted a pay cut so that they could form a “Big Three.” After two consecutive championships and the chance at a third, it’s unclear if Wade would be willing to leave money on the table again in 2014.
“That was something we wanted to do, it wasn’t that we had to do it. At the time, guys like LeBron and CB were searching for their first championship. So you’re willing to get whatever you can to put yourself in position to win that,” Wade said.
“There are different times and different mindsets that you deal with. That was 2010. I’m not saying that LeBron James or Chris Bosh, if they get the opportunity again, are going to leave $17 million on the table. No one can say they should do that. You have to do what is best for you.”
