IAEA: Iran has taken initial steps to ensure 'peaceful' nuclear program

VIENNA, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency met with representatives of the Iranian government on Saturday and Sunday to review progress on the implementation of the Framework for Cooperation.

The two parties concluded that Iran has fulfilled the "six initial practical measures" set forth in the Framework that was agreed to in November and intended to ensure "the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear programme." Iran and the IAEA determined that Iran would implement the following seven measures by May 15, 2014.

-- Provide mutually agreed relevant information and managed access to the Saghand mine in Yazd; -- Provide mutually agreed relevant information and managed access to the Ardakan concentration plant; -- Submit an updated Design Information Questionnaire (DIQ) for the IR-40 Reactor; -- Take steps to agree with the Agency on the conclusion of a Safeguards Approach for the IR-40 Reactor; -- Provide mutually agreed relevant information and arrange for a technical visit to Lashkar Ab'ad Laser Centre; -- Provide information on source material, which has not reached the composition and purity suitable for fuel fabrication or for being isotopically enriched, including imports of such material and on Iran's extraction of uranium from phosphates; and -- Provide information and explanations for the Agency to assess Iran's stated need or application for the development of Exploding Bridge Wire detonators.
