HANOI, Vietnam, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Now that the overnight sensation, Flappy Bird, is gone forever from the app store, fans of the inexplicably popular game are willing to bid thousands just to get their hands on a copy.

Smartphones with the chart-topping game began popping up on eBay after Vietnamese game creator Dong Nguyen, pulled the app offline Sunday.

Some, with prices nearing $100,000, appeared on the online auction site but have since disappeared, possibly removed by eBay for fake bids.

And others, including a Samsung Galaxy S4 (listed at $255,000) and an iPhone 4S ($134,295), remain listed but have no bidders.

Completed listings show at least one person was suckered into paying $10,100 for an iPhone 5s with the game installed, and several others were sold for $5,000.

Those who already have the game installed on their devices can keep it, although it won't be updated unless Ngyuen decides to allow it back online. But savvy gamers know they can still grab the game -- for free, if illegally -- by downloading it from the sites like the Pirate Bay.
