Feb. 9 (UPI) -- They didn't let him say, "the Winter Olympics are coming," but NBC recruited popular Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage to narrate their introductory segment for Sochi's Opening Ceremony on Friday.

"It almost seems like an oversight that this nation, that bears so much of winter's burden, has never before hosted the Winter Games," the Emmy-winning actor says over footage of Russia's snow-capped mountains and icy climate.

He goes on to discuss specific athletes like Shaun White, J.R. Celski and Bode Miller. The seven-minute clip also features Gracie Gold, Meryl Davis and Charlie White, Ashley Wagner, Julia Mancuso, Tina Maze, Aksel Lund Svindal, and Alex Ovechkin.

Across the pond, the BBC tapped another Game of Thrones star with a commanding voice to narrate its Olympics preview -- Charles Dance, who plays Tywin Lannister.
