PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Former Stanford University student Rahinah Ibrahim was removed from the FBI's no-fly list after seven years, since she was initially added due to a clerical error by an FBI agent.
After seven years and a long legal battle, U.S. District judge William Alsup ruled that Ibrahim be removed from the list, as the reason she was added to the list was because FBI agent Michael Kelly "checked the wrong boxes" on the form after misunderstanding the directions.
The court hearings were closed but her attorneys believe that the FBI mistook her involvement with a women's group to be involvement with a terrorist organization. Ibrahim is now in her forties and living as a professor of architecture in Malaysia. She says the years of legal battles and lack of visa have damaged her professional development.
