UN secretary-general attending Sochi Winter Olympics

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will travel to Sochi Tuesday, where he plans to hold bi-lateral meetings with international leaders and participate in the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.

NEW YORK, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will attend the Winter Olympics, according to a press release issued Monday.

The UN secretary-general will depart Tuesday evening for Sochi, where "he will take part in the opening of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games" on Friday.

Ban plans to take advantage of the international gathering, with bi-lateral meetings also planned with world leaders this week. There was no additional information regarding the topics to be discussed.

Ban will depart Sochi on Saturday, February 8.
