LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Rihanna's Unapologetic won a Grammy Award Sunday for Best Urban Contemporary Album, but the 25-year-old Barbadian songstress decided not to attend the ceremony. Instead, she thanked Grammy organizers on Twitter.

Though she wasn't at the main event, Rihanna did go to Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammys gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Saturday.

Miley Cyrus, who has made a recent habit of notable awards-show appearances, performed at the gala but ditched the Grammys. Despite generally positive reviews for her latest album, Bangerz, Cyrus wasn't nominated this year.

Instead, the 21-year-old twerk princess treated fans to a brief "Guitar Hero" performance.

Justin Timberlake and Kanye West were both nominated, but decided not to attend. The latter complained last month that his album, Yeezus, should have received a nod for Album of the Year.

"Yeezus is the top one or two album on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys," he said at the time. "What are they trying to say?"
