While interviewing for the "Power" issue of Seventeen magazine, Selena Gomez opened up about her relationship with two fellow stars -- her on-again off-again BFF Demi Lovato and ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.

On the subject of friendship, the "Come & Get It" singer explained that she's known Lovato since childhood and that the latter's courage to share her struggles with drug abuse is what inspired her to reconnect with her former best friend.

"I've known her since we were 7, and we did fall apart for a while," she said of the time Lovato entered rehab to deal with her addiction problems. "She was going through things and I was so young and it was confusing. I processed it saying, 'OK, I don't understand what she's going through so I'm just going to do this.' I don't think it was fair, and I'm so happy that I have her back in my life now."

Gomez, 21, went on to say that Lovato is one of the strongest people she knows and "the only person" she "would tell the deepest, darkest secrets to."

On the subject of strong women, Gomez said she also finds Katy Perry to be a good person to talk to.

"I actually talked to Katy Perry about guys who are intimidated by strong girls," the brunette told the magazine. "I haven't found someone yet who could understand my lifestyle, support it, love me through it, and not be threatened by it. It's hard."

Speaking of finding that special someone, the former Disney starlet explained that her breakup from currently-in-jail Bieber was one of the things that made her decide she needed to take control of her life, and have her latest musical effort "be amazing."

"This year is when I really started feeling powerful," she said. "I had always been the underdog secretly. I was on Disney when it was Miley [Cyrus], the Jonas Brothers, and Demi [Lovato]. I questioned the way I looked, acted, sang and wrote. Then I turned 20, went through a really bad breakup, and realized I needed to have 'Come & Get It' be amazing. I wanted it all to be me. I'm glad it's taken me this long to get where I am because now I am ready for it."
