This year's Grammy Awards is going out with a bang.

A head bang, that is, and probably more than one: That's because preeminent hair-whipper Dave Grohl, currently of the Foo Fighters, is teaming up with former collaborators Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age, as well as Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham, to rock out for the Grammys Sunday night.

"We're incredibly excited about this number," Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich said in a statement. "There's nothing better than when the Grammys can rock out, and to have these artists all together on one stage, doing a number that, when they presented it to us, knocked us out, is going to turn out to be one of those Grammy moments that people talk about for a long time. Long live Trent, Josh, Dave and Lindsey and these great bands!"

Grohl has performed extensively with both Nine Inch Nails (including on NIN's 2005 release, With Teeth) and Queens of the Stone Age (on 2002's Songs for the Deaf), and NIN's Trent Reznor and QOTSA's Josh Homme both contributed to the soundtrack of Grohl's Grammy-nominated Sound City documentary.

And while Buckingham seems like something of an outlier, he has previously worked with both Grohl and Reznor. He appeared in Sound City, along with Fleetwood Mac bandmate Stevie Nicks, later touring with Grohl with the Sound City Players, and played on NIN's latest release, Hesitation Marks.

This superest of super groups is set to close out Sunday's night's telecast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, joining a star-studded lineup that includes Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who will accept a lifetime achievement award, Beyonce and Jay Z, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons, Lorde, Metallica, Katy Perry, Pink, Robin Thicke and Willie Nelson.
