Larry King named new Dean of Friars Club

Larry King has been tapped as the next Dean of the Friars Club, taking over from a retiring Freddie Roman.

King will work closely with Abbot Jerry Lewis to oversee the club's famous celebrity roasts and dinners and the club's board of governors.

"I've been a Friar for many years and at one time served as Abbot of the Friars of Beverly Hills," King said. "I am honored to be asked to be Dean of the Friars. I grew up in Brooklyn, so this is like coming home. It's a great group with an important foundation that serves in many areas. So now --- I'm Dean!"

King steps into the shoes of Roman, a Broadway producer and star who held the job for 20 years.

"He knows the inner workings of the Club and is passionate about its history as well as the impact it has made in the community," Roman said. "I am confident that the Club is in capable hands and I proudly pass the Friarly baton on to this broadcasting legend."

The Friars have already announced this year's roast, set for January 30, will feature Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Goldbergs) and will honor football analyst Boomer Esiason.
