The Chicago Cubs new mascot, Clark the Bear, was shown equipped with male genitalia for nearly 10 seconds of live TV on Tuesday night after someone at CSN Mid-Atlantic apparently decided to have a little fun.
After the Cubs introduced Clark on Monday, sports blog Deadspin posted the anatomically-correct version of the bear to the website. That version of Clark made its way onto the airwaves of CSN Mid-Atlantic during Sports Talk Live.
CSN anchor Nicole read a description about Clark as viewers were treated to a shot of his family jewels.
"He's described as a young, friendly Cub who can't wait to interact with the kids..." Darin said. "Uh ... I think that is a gag photo. If we could switch to the next one."
After a lengthy pause, the picture shifted to a shot of the mascot of the New Orleans Pelicans.
This incident notwithstanding, the Cubs have received a lot of criticism about Clark. Even so, the team does not plan on putting Clark into hibernation.
"We're not surprised by some of the reaction," said Cubs' vice president of communication and community affairs Julian Green. "Everyone is entitled and free to share their opinion -- even on Social Media. Unfortunately, there are those who decided to respond and engage in a way that had absolutely nothing to do with the mascot."
