Libyan Deputy Minster of Industry Hassan Al-Darole was assassinated in the Mediterranean city of Sirte on Saturday.
Tripoli Security Directorate's media coordinator Essam Naas said that the killing occurred near a marketplace after prayers. Unidentified gunmen opened fire and, according to a Ministry of Defense official, Al-Darole was killed instantly.
Al-Darole previously served as a representative from Sirte to the National Transitional Council following the revolution in 2011 that overthrew the late dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
Sirte is a city mid-way between Tripoli and Benghazi.
