HBO has made it official.
The Newsroom, the alternatively maligned and beloved Aaron Sorkin series, will return for a third and final season.
“'The Newsroom' is classic Aaron Sorkin -- smart, riveting and thought-provoking,” said HBO's president of programming, Michael Lombardo. “I’m sure this farewell season will be one to remember.”
HBO had held off on announcing a third season of the show, for which Jeff Daniels won an Emmy as main newsman Will McAvoy, as it worked out scheduling and other negotiations with Sorkin. The writer had been working on -- and has apparently completed -- his script for a Sony biopic focused on Steve Jobs.
Daniels even tweeted out that the show had been "officially" renewed back in September, only to have to backtrack.
No word on when The Newsroom will be back on.
