'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' wins best television comedy Golden Globe

Fox's new comedy starring SNL alum Andy Samberg took home two awards during Sunday's Golden Globe awards.

Fox's Brooklyn Nine-Nine beat out several favorites and was named the winner of Sunday night's Golden Globe for best comedy series.

The series, which is still in its first season, stars Andy Samberg as a rookie police detective working with a strict new captain played by Andre Braugher. The former SNL star also won the Golden Globe for best actor in a television comedy for his role as Jake Peralta.

The show competed against HBO's Girls, ABC's award winning Modern Family, NBC's Parks and Recreation and CBS's The Big Bang Theory.

Samberg, on the other hand, beat out Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Don Cheadle (House Of Lies), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) and Michael J. Fox (The Michael J. Fox Show) for his award.

"Oh, no! I didn't prepare anything. It wasn't going to happen," he said before thanking his co-workers, his wife and the show's crew during Sunday's award show.

The 71st Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, and hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
