'House of Cards' season 2 trailer teases more Machiavellian intrigue

Kevin Spacey returns as the series' ruthless, conviving politician -- and now he's vice president.

Jan. 6 (UPI) -- House of Cards has plenty to live up to -- the popular Netflix series' first season garnered nine Emmy nominations (and won three) last year. It's also up for four Golden Globe Awards this Sunday, including Best Drama Series and Best Actor for Kevin Spacey.

Netflix will release the show's full sophomore season on February 14, with Spacey's Frank Underwood taking up his coveted vice presidency -- the post that drove him to blackmail, revenge and eventually murder.

“One heartbeat away from the presidency and not a single vote cast in my name. Democracy is so overrated," Underwood says smugly in the promo.

The rest of the trailer teases the return of Kate Mara's eager young journalist, Robin Wright's "calculating" wife and plenty of the Beltway backstabbing you've come to expect.
