The start of 2014 will be Supreme Court-approved.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a native of the Bronx, has been tapped to lead the 60-second New Year's Eve countdown to midnight in New York City's Times Square Tuesday night. The justice will also hit the button that sends the Waterford Crystal ball on its drop.

“She is an inspiration to New Yorkers everywhere, and we can’t wait to have her join us,” the Times Square District Management Association announced on Facebook.

Melissa Etheridge is this year's pick to perform John Lennon's "Imagine" leading into the final minute of 2013.

Organizers completed the traditional "confetti test" Sunday, employing a Spider-Man in full costume, tossing handfuls of paper scraps in Times Square to test the paper for the midnight drop, when a ton of the colorful stuff will float down over the crowd.

Festivities will kick off at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with traffic restrictions beginning at noon and expanding as revelers arrive.
